Learn To Sew Series @ Thimble Bee’s Virtual Sewing School
We have revamped our virtual class offerings for 2021. To kickoff TB’s Virtual Sewing School, we’re offering the Learn To Sew Series. This will be a six week class introducing students to the amazing world of sewing! (You can see class specifics outlined below.)
You will receive:
-LIVE weekly lessons via FB Live or Zoom. The first half of class will be for teaching and demonstrations. The second half of class will be for student participation and questions. Lessons will be held on Wednesdays at 4:15pm-5:15pm.
-We will hold live “sewing halls” (kind of like study hall in school) for students who need additional help or instruction in completing their lesson
-Recorded video of weekly lessons
-PDF files of weekly lesson worksheets and patterns
-Supply list for what’s needed for class
-Access to our Virtual Sewing School Facebook group for additional communication between teacher + parents
The fee for class is $99 for six weeks of instruction. We are offering a $25 discount to all students who signup for our first session!
Here’s what your child will learn each week:
Week 1: Learn about sewing safety and how to keep yourself safe while using a sewing machine. Learn how to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin. We also cover how to change a needle and what thread to use.
Week 2: Fabric prep talk. We discuss what fabrics you should be working with as a beginner, how to lay out patterns onto your fabric, and proper cutting techniques. We also discuss how to mark your fabric for best results.
Week 3: Jumping back to the sewing machine! We will be looking at a standard stitch and zigzag stitch, achieving a correct seam allowance, increasing the stitch length and reviewing how to thread our sewing machines successfully.
Week 4: We will focus on sewing accuracy – how to sew curves and corners, matching seams, and how to press our seams correctly. Introduction to reading a simple pattern and basic sewing terms.
Week 5: Put your knowledge to action. Cutout and begin sewing a simple bag.
Week 6: Continue practicing sewing basics by completing your first simple sewing project. Students will be awarded a Learn To Sew completion certificate.
